WHO ARE WE TO OUR STUDENTS?
By Hope Pacheco, LMSW, YES Prep Public Schools, Houston, Texas 2012 Texas School Social Worker of the Year We are the seekers of the truth, when they don’t know what to say We are the holders of what is sacred, in a time of hurt and pain We are the keepers of their secrets, when no one needs to know We are the reporters when it is mandated and the bruises start to show We listen to their stories and help them find their truth We hold their hand when they feel alone And dry their tears to show them, it is not so We give them the tools and the space to figure it out We teach them to see the power they have, without a doubt We hold the mirror We shine the light We give them the courage to fight the good fight We are the healers of the heart We are the comforters of the soul We are the whisperer of the mind We are present in the moment We are witness to their journey We are their guardians We are their advocates We are their guides We are THEIR school social workers! If your child is in need of clothing or other items please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Archibald for support and resources. 586-825-2840 ex. 52972 Our four MOCI classrooms celebrated Fire Prevention Week (Oct 9-15, 2016) on Monday with a special visit from the Sterling Heights Fire Department. Students had a brief introduction to fire safety, learned about firefighting gear and got to role-play being a firefighter by squirting the fire truck's water hose. This special visit fueled many smiles! As a School Social Worker and mother of two, I look for ways that can help me grow professionally and personally. In the past, I subscribed to a newsletter through Positive Parenting Solutions. www.PositiveParentingSolutions.com
I often get emails regarding the parenting topic and came across the information listed below that I thought I would share with my fellow parents. https://conferenceformoms.com/ October 11, 12, and 13th. During this 100% FREE online conference you’ll learn how to…
*** Once you’re registered, each day of the conference, they’ll send you an email with the link to that day’s presentations. They’ll post the 6-7 presentations for each day at 10 A.M. Eastern Standard Time and you’ll have 24 hours to watch them. So you can watch when it’s most convenient for you! October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month, a chance to spread awareness. During the month of October, we celebrate people with Down Syndrome and make people others aware of abilities and accomplishments. It's not about celebrating disabilities, it's about celebrating abilities.
